As of December 20, 2024, employers in Cyprus are legally required to register the essential terms of employment for all their employees in the newly established ERGANI information system. This obligation arises from the Law on Transparent and Predictable Working Conditions of 2023 (Law 25(I)/2023), which aims to standardize and enhance transparency in employment relations.

The ERGANI system allows the registration of key details such as employer and employee information, workplace specifics, job descriptions, employment durations, probationary periods, and remuneration details. The law applies to all employers and employees in Cyprus, except for specific categories such as seafarers, fishermen, and those working fewer than three hours weekly over a four-week period.

Non-compliance with the abovementioned obligation can lead to penalties of up to €5,500. Therefore, employers are advised to act promptly to avoid legal consequences and ensure compliance with these new regulations.

This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to fostering fair and transparent working conditions, safeguarding employee rights, and modernizing employment practices across all sectors.
